Future Forums: Legislative Wrap-up Coming in June
There are many plans underway that will transform our downtown: expanding the Civic Center, a UMN campus, new apartments, changing the streetscapes, adding retail space and a biotechnology center. What’s our vision for our downtown?  Representatives of the city, downtown organizations, businesses, commissions, and non-profits will be invited to share information about current and future downtown development. Local elected officials will be invited to hear your thoughts about what is needed in our downtown.

Audience
This forum is free and open to the public. This is an opportunity to be part of the democratic process and share views on issues facing our community.

I will be going to this. I want to to press home the issue of out of control sprawl and that we need to get back to condensing our population in smaller areas by doing so you can put business and residential areas closer making it easier to get around on foot or bike or bus. We need a long term strategy that keeps this mindless business pop ups and burnouts that’s happening on a more feverish pace than ever before. for every a new business opens and closes is a new building or remodiling which takes up huge amounts of resources. People are starting businesses with no regards to if the community even wants it. Example the new mexican reatarant in the old burgur king building on broadway. I know I am not intrested. Wonder how long it will be before it goes under like so many of other businesses the past 15 years. Another example is Ultimate Electronics which use to be at the mall moved to a bigger store by the super target. they did not ask us what we wanted which was for them to stay at the mall now they are gone its now Staples or Fish and Pets or something like that now.

quite a few of the remodiling projects involve ripping out the old and trashing it in a land fill.

I have also noticed office space being built but no one moves in they sit empty. waste, it one of those cases regarding making a product then waste more advertisement to try to sell it to someone who doesn’t want it.

What of building huge condo/ apartment buildings that are 4-5 deep 10 floors tall and the first floor could be servicecs like groceries, cafe, and laundry and such. the center area of the big donut shape building would be an open area for a community events or small eco enviorment for people to comune in.
