The 100 Year Letter Project
I believe I was reading the New York Times online one morning when I came across an article that talked about “The 100 Year Letter Project”. The article referenced a blog called the DeSmogBlog whose mission is to “clear the PR pollution that clouds the science on climate change”. Besides being an interesting blog with a lot of useful information, the 100 Year Letter Project really had me thinking.
The blog author asks readers to write a letter to their
great-grandchildren about the hopes and vision for their world in 100 years, in the context of global warming.
What would you write to your great-grandchildren….or even your grandchildren? How do you see our planet over the next 100 years? Knowing all of the changes that you have witnessed over your lifetime, what do you think will transpire over the next decades?
Will your letter be one of complete departure from life as we know it? How do you see our lives changing? How do you see the planet changing?
Will your letter be one of hope and optimism? With all of the advances in technology and science that you have witnessed in your lifetime, do you believe that this will save us in the decades to come? Do you believe that there will be a collective coming together of the global community?
Take a few minutes to jot down a few points that you would make in a 100 Year Letter. Maybe even write the letter. If not, it would be a great opportunity to then create a list of goals for you and your family for the New Year.
What additional steps would you be willing to take to make a difference? What will you resolve to do in 2008 to live a little lighter on this planet?
