Earth Friendly Choices (July 2007)
Energy
- Contact your local utility company for rebates on new appliances and maintenance for your existing ones.
- Consider building a solar dehydrators, solar oven, earth oven (Google for more information on inexpensive ways to build).
- Partner with a neighbor for a day of baking. Sharing the oven will save energy!
- Purchase or borrow a Kill-a-watt meter to monitor appliance energy usage. Test smaller electronics too. You might be surprised by how much energy they use!
Water
- Don’t buy bottled water. A lot of energy goes into creating the plastic for all of the bottled water Americans consume each year. Billions and billions end up in landfills each year. Purchase a reusable. Kleen Kanteen instead.
- Use a soaker hose to water flowers and veggies.
